DEVIN GARY & ROSS WITH KRAMER

Filed under: Blog — Gary Panter @ 5:31 pm

In a week and a half, Devin Gary & Ross are heading out on our West Coast tour. Ten shows in eleven days LA to Seattle in a van. I will list the shows here, but first, an amazing development for us is that — KRAMER of Shockabilly, Bongwater, Butthole, Surfers, Gong, B.A.L.L., SHIMMYDISC and much else is joining us on tour playing bass!!! This blows our minds as KRAMER is someone  whose music and projects we have admired for a long time– a hero. This should be very interesting!!!

Our first show is in LA at the HAMMER mueseum. We are touring supporting Sun Foot and NO AGE.

===========================================

The mail of the website long ago crashed and log-jammed and froze up like a dead winter spigot. If you want to write to me, please guess what simple address I would use at gmail. Or look me up on facebook. If I don’t know you personally I probably won’t friend you on facebook,   because I friended 4,000 people I don’t know already and now I have 4800 friends facebook friends and  am saving the last houndred or so spots for people that I actually know in waking life.

If you are awaiting an order in the mail and are worried that you didn’t hear from me and worry that it got lost, or something, feel free to write to me and ask or complain– not at this website address, as I said. I am a one man shop here. Complain to me, please. The custom drawing orders—I am working on quite a few and I tend to finish a bunch at the same times, so, I am working on it. Scritch. It will be good.

Gary Panter Paintings–The Magnetic Lady

The Magnetic Lady

January 25 through February 23, 2013

Opening Reception January 25, 2013 6-8pm

Fredericks & Freiser is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings on paper by Gary Panter. Widely recognized as one of the most significant and influential founders of the Los Angeles punk aesthetic, Panter’s “punk, nuclear, hillbilly” sensibility has been a presence in the art world since the late 1970’s.

Panter’s work combines the manic energy of mass media with the narrative brevity of cartoon culture. Known for his jagged line and raw brushstroke, Panter presents chaotic image-strewn landscapes as well as more axiomatic works that center on filmic archetypes. Set against abstract backgrounds, both styles undermine narrative by dislocating characters from their expected storylines. At once primitive and urban, Panter’s work creates an uncanny world where mythology is fractured and sensory overload is anything but invalid.

Mike Kelley writes: “Then came Gary Panter whose work was so elegantly brutal, so seemingly effortless… just channeled lines of a most complex sort sometimes forming stories, sometimes congealing into wads and broken grids…Gary Panter was born to be the new master of a very secret school of visual communication.”

Fredericks & Freiser is located at 536 West 24th Street. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 6pm. Contact us by phone at (212) 633-6555 or fax(212) 633-7372 or visit us at www.fredericksfreisergallery.com.

Gary Panter painting show at Fredericks and Freiser in January

Filed under: Blog — Gary Panter @ 12:00 am

I have a painting show coming right up at Fredericks and Freiser gallery in Chelsea. Friday, January 25 from 6-8 pm.
The gallery flooded and has had a lot of repairs and toil to get back in business. My work luckily was on a high shelf and so was not destroyed in the flood and so you can still see it rather than blobs of flotsam. As seen on the link, David Humphrey’s show is up for a few more days.

Stuff you order from my site

Filed under: Blog — Gary Panter @ 4:59 pm

Dear friends. Thank you for ordering things from my site. I am sorry it takes a while to get them to you. On the site it says to please allow  six to eight weeks to get your merchandise and that it usually true. Sometimes you get it sooner and sometimes even longer, sorry to say. I am the only person at the Gary Store who packs the things up and stands in line at the post office and I am very happy to do that. Sometimes my other activities slow me up. I am maybe trying to do too many things in my life, but for now that is my life and I am enjoying it. If you have a problem with your order please write my active email– the sitemail was long ago paralyzed by spams and spasms. My email is my name with no space between first and last names at gmail. Please write if you have a question about your order. I am friendly if a bit slow.

I have been lucky enough to be receiving fanmail and so on from people since about 1977 and though much of that communication has dispersed to social media,  I still get a ton of stuff. I appreciate your interest and kind words. So please write. I may not be able to respond if you send me your mini comic or ask me to be in a comic and or art show or like your thing or sadly come out to your show. The inflow in invitations has long ago been something I have a hard time keeping up with. My gallery, Fredericks and Freiser plans my shows and show involvement. So though I do read everything, I am  overrun with inquiries. Keep them coming , but imagine you are writing a turtle whose flippers have limited control.

On facebook I am only friending, as they call it, people I really know nowadays. I have friended about 4000 people I don’t know or don’t know well and almost a thousand that I do know, so even though I see that really neat people are kindly asking me to friend them, I am maxed out. There is a fan page for me and I post a lot of the same stuff there, if you want to check it out.

Though I am a so called underground cartoonist and liberal minded artist, I don’t appreciate people putting lewd and lascivious pictures and items on my facebook page. All my friends and loved ones are not wild eyed radicals. There are a few exceptions to my not like filth item rule–Jay Cotton, Johnny Ryan and Hudson Marquez. I have an eye on those three,  but will sometimes use mr discretion and allow them poetic liscence to go nuts because they are seasoned pros. I don’t have a giant appetite for antiheroes and violence, though my art may suggest otherwise.

Thanks for the thousands of beautiful thoughts over the years. I hate that they all eventually disappear into the cybervoid, eventually, here in the future and leave no papyrus trace.

Back to the main point. If your order doesn’t show up, or if you are worried about it, for any reason, please  write me an email or on facebook. Thanks, comrade.
